The Wireless RERC is pleased to announce that it will anchor the Assistive Technology Pavillion at AbilitiesExpo-Atlanta 2009 with several demonstrations and displays of experimental and commercially available technologies to help people with various disabilities.

"We're excited to be part of this year's AbilitiesExpo", said Mike Jones, Principal Investigator for the Wireless RERC. "It's a great opportunity to show a range of technologies that are already available, or could be available in the future."

The Wireless RERC exhibits will include:

  • A "live bar" demonstration of accessibility features in commercially available mobile communications devices
  • Demonstration of auditory menus, speech icons, and speech indexes for the visually impaired
  • Demonstration of Deaf-911 phone for the hearing impaired
  • Accessible Bluetooth headset options and accessible iPod controls for people with manual limitations
  • "Talk to the Hand" - an immersive tool to assist in object recognition and improve hand-eye coordination skills for the visually impaired

The Wireless is RERC is also proud to be sharing the organizational responsibilities for the AT Pavilion with its colleagues and partners at:

  • Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access, Georgia Tech
  • Aware Home Research Initiative, Georgia Tech
  • Interactive Media Technology Center, Georgia Tech
  • Neurotech Network
