RERC Policy and Regulatory Issues
An overview of projects with disability and technology policy components
During its first five years, the RERC's policy group submitted 5 regulatory filings to the FCC in areas related to the Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) and Emergency Alert System (EAS). Comments by the Center were cited three times within the text of the FCC’s later adopted Report and Order and the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on EAS. Advanced Auditory Interfaces for Wireless
Technology
This project will establish and validate guidelines for the design of auditory interfaces for cell phones and other handheld electronic devices. -
Collaborative Policy Approaches to Promote Equitable
Access
This project will examine public policy issues that influence equitable access to wireless technology and identify opportunities to inform and influence policy decisions supporting equitable access. -
Development of Wireless Emergency
Communications
This effort will determine what policies are needed to ensure the next-generation, digitally-based emergency alerts system affords full access to people with disabilities.
