Leanne West

Leanne West is a Senior Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and leader of the LandMARC Research Center. She has participated as a project leader in the Wireless RERC since 2001. Ms. West has licensed her invention of a wireless personal captioning system to industry for commercialization and is leading the commercial product development effort. Other current projects include development of wireless real-time location-based informational services for people with disabilities, development/integration of head-mounted display systems for the military, and development of hazard sensors for commercial aircraft. She is author of a book chapter in Technology for Aging, Disability and Independence: Computer and Engineering for Design and Applications, to be published by John Wiley & Sons, and has written a number of papers and given several presentations on assistive technology device development and remote sensing. In addition, she is a member of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers AD Hoc Group for the development of closed captioning standards for digital cinema. Ms. West was recognized for her work when she was named one of Georgia’s “40 Under 40” by Georgia Trend magazine in 2004, a listing of the 40 “Best and Brightest” influential Georgians in the business and political communities under 40 years old. Ms. West is an active participant at her organization as an elected representative to the Georgia Tech Executive Board.
