Problem
-
Persons with disabilities can have difficulty using the interfaces to consumer electronics an appliances
-
All users could potentially benefit from adaptable user interfaces that address the problem of increasing complexity in consumer electronics.
-
Broad industry support is needed to solve this problem
Approach
-
Participate in the INCITS V2 committee to develop a standard for Universal Remote Consoles (URC) (ANSI/INCITS 389-2005 through 393-2005 and ISO/IEC DIS 24752). The URC standard allows electronic devices to offer a User Interface Socket to which alternative user interfaces can connect for remote control.
-
Participate in the Universal Remote Console Consortium to promote, implement and support URC.
-
Develop tools to help manufacturers implement URC concept in products
-
Develop prototypes/reference designs to test concepts and user interfaces
-
Disseminate tools and findings to industry
